About this item:

The Pirate Queen is a historical adventure novel written by Ariel Lawhon, the New York Times bestselling author of The Frozen River and I Was Anastasia. The story is inspired by the life of Grace O'Malley, an Irish sea captain and folk heroine who fought to protect her people against the Elizabethan regime. Born into the O'Malley clan, Grace defies expectations of her noble upbringing to pursue a life at sea. After being married to a neighboring chief, she eventually returns to her childhood home to begin a career as a pirate. The narrative explores sixteenth-century Ireland, detailing Grace's efforts to claim territory and defend her family against English incursions. This hardcover book provides a fictionalized account of the life of the woman known as the Pirate Queen of Ireland.
